A Pleiades on Goldfish by Mia

Gloriously crunchy
Gladly beaming through a
Greatly salty mouth with
Ginormous fishy eyes
Goldfish are vibrant orange
Gladly swimming in a
Green box of rainbow fish

Lyrics by Mia

Has anyone sung the same song, over and over and over again in front of you on purpose? If such a tragedy has struck, I can be overly empathic. For the past forty five minuets, a friend of mine has been singing and skipping non stop, declaring in a sing song voice all the way down the hall: "I FEEL PRETTY! OH SO PRETTY! I FEEL WITTYYYYYYYYYY!" It's quite irritating after the first, or second, or 78th time. It has been the bane of my existence to have songs get stuck in my head, the lyrics written above are plastered to my brain. Now all I can possibly think about is the atrocious movie starring Adam Sandler: Anger Management, where this song was sung in New York City rush hour traffic. I feel pretty, oh so pretty. I feel pretty and witty and gay!

How The Tree Came To Be

The Earth was blank and the Moons did rise,
but nothing stood tall of any size,
the fought and bickered about what should be,
but then one of them could truly see,
she made them each happy and compromise,
but with this great happiness came a surprise,
they had to meagre to give their gift,
to make the Earth live the sky must shift,
so they each became one changing each night,
to watch what they'd created they must keep it in sight,
for when all have died or forgotten who would remember that beautiful name you see,
who would remember that name that name tree.

People of The Fire

The people of the fire dance in the night,
eating my positions and I think it's not right,
they glow and frolic in the wreckage looking for more to eat,
but they see that I have lost interest and look to take a seat,
they ask me why so and I tell them not,
for you see the things that I have sot,
are meaning less in the light of what was saved,
they lie on their side on the road newly paved,
she's my little sister and I can say,
all those possessions are not worth her play.

The Stimulus Bill

The stimulus bill was passed recently which will hopefully jump start the economy, but what are we really getting out of it. This bill is close to 50% tax cuts, to put this in prospective single people could get back up too eight dollars a week, and married couples may get up too sixteen. But some time in the future when our grand children are paying really high taxes to pay back the money for this stimulus bill they will ask, "I am paying really high taxes, and I want to know what you spent the extra eight dollars on." You might say that you used it to send your kid to college or maybe to by a house. But the very depressing and likely thing is that you probably used it to go to the movies or go out to eat more often. But if the bill had the original amount of spending to create new jobs, you could say that I sent someone to college and you would be telling the truth. We don't need less taxes, we need more jobs, and I think the last eight years has taught us that. We need to learn from our past so we can create our future.

Valentines Day

Valentines Day what a waste all those flowers and candy bought to show love,
But some of us now stand above,
Watching you scurry and run to the store,
and I must say what a bore,
the love in your life shown by candy,
bought in a store made by some Andy,
if you truly wish to show your affection,
spend time with your love and make a connection,
don't let them leave or feel nothing in their heart,
for who knows how long till you'll be apart.

An Essay on Traveling by Mia

Traveling now days is more available in general than it ever has been before. All one must do is simply purchase a plane ticket on the internet and within days, one could be exploring the grasslands of Africa. I personally would not travel alone to Africa for the soul reason of being mauled by a ferocious lion. But others, I’m sure, would happily accept the opportunity to travel to Africa with or without lions and tigers and bear. Oh my!
Of course, there are many advantages to traveling that exclude starving lions. Traveling is a perfectly wonderful time to meet new people, eat exotic foods, and listen to outlandish music such as throat singing and bagpipes. Traveling is also a time to gaze dreamily like monuments like the Taj Mahal and the Dumou in Florence, Italy. In traveling far and wide, it is common to stumble and blush over foreign languages. It is not fun, however, to attempt to order bread and cheese and be served the tongue of a cow.
But as all things have two sides, it is an obligation to state sad truths and disadvantages of traveling. Mainly, poor sanitation in countries around the world can lead to diseases. In addition, there are financial problems. It is advised, if not required, to get certain vaccinations to travel. At last once the many vaccinations have been taken and one’s arm is terribly sore, the medical bill comes. One can sadly look at the depleting bank account that the plane ticket or the cost of gas and the vaccinations have run down. When the time comes to travel, the traveler in question may be, such as myself, ultra paranoid about deadly spiders and typhoid. Once in the travel destination, it is challenging to enjoy the scenery when you had to get five vaccinations and water filters in order not to die. It can be quite maddening.
In today’s economy, it is hard for everyone to travel internationally. The drastic swings of the stock market and the bills don’t help the traveling cause. Although it is considered a luxury, which it is, I believe everyone should at one point in their life, should be lucky enough to travel. If the person in question does not want to travel, it is their loss. People can learn so much from other cultures. Not only does traveling expand one’s horizons, but it changes the way one thinks. I feel more understanding and tolerant after taking a trip. Observing other people, who may seem worlds away, is a humbling experience. I’ve come to realize through traveling that it is possible to connect with people and to temporarily become part of someone’s world. After traveling, I feel connected to everyone everywhere. I find it sad that most people in the world don’t get to travel.
Overall, traveling may seem like a rather tricky ordeal. The prospect of communicating with non-English speakers, diseases and ferocious lions can be intimidating. But to me, traveling and experiencing such wonders is worth the vaccination shots and the bland Pimsleur lessons. People only get to live once. Since life is so short (although, dually noted, it is the longest thing someone can do) why waste away in a dreary site? Traveling enriches one’s life dramatically. If it’s possible for one to take a trip, then the person in question should be prepared from the ride of their life.

Writing-by Mia

The thrill is intoxicating.
The pen to paper, the creation of descriptions
And breathing life into fictional people.
It’s exhilarating.
I can hardly describe how blissful it is to write.
These words do not suffice. In times of misery
Or joy, it cultivates energy, yet at the same time,
It seizes it away.
It provokes thought, which can often feel like icy shards piercing one’s heart.
Its anger and sadness and laughter
Writing is everything to me.
To take an idea, a figment, a small, silvery
“Maybe” and watch it grow, twisting in ways never imagined.
It becomes something bigger than life.
It becomes something that can root itself and continue
To grow, while you watch in wonder.
The fear, joy, sadness and love lives through people that do not
Exist, but are realer than anyone who actually breathes.
But beyond all, the inner need and passion one feels while
Writing is incomprehensibly strong. I cannot even begin to fathom
Just how strong and timeless it really is. Crafted, over thousands of years,
Writing stands as a worldwide monument of determination,
Beauty, tragedy anger, hate and insight.
I feel part of it, as are we all. We add the infinite number of pieces in
The ever changing library that covers the earth.

A Unruly Bird

I thought this picture was glorious in all of its "fakeness".
